Aryanews- Thailand on Thursday reported its first confirmed case of a pig contracting the H1N1 virus, also called swine flu, the Public Health Ministry said.
Of nasal swabs taken from 80 pigs at a swine-breeding centre in Saraburi province, 120 kilometres north-east of Bangkok, at least one tested positive for the H1N1 virus, the ministry's permanent secretary, Paichit Varachit, said.
A student at the Pig Breeding Centre of Bangkok's Kasetsart
University fell sick with the H1N1 virus in early December and
presumably passed the virus on to one of the pigs, Paichit informed.
"There is no need for the public to panic," Paichit added. "People can still eat pork per usual."
