India’s automobile retail sales rise 9.55% in May; two-wheeler EV share surges
Arya News - According to data released by FADA, passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales touched a record 4,02,591 units last month, up from 3,26,656 units in May 2025, marking a growth of 23.25 per cent.

NEW DELHI – India’s total automobile retail sales registered a year-on-year growth of 9.55 per cent, reaching a record 25,31,067 units in May, compared with 23,10,451 units in the same month last year, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA).
According to data released by FADA, passenger vehicle (PV) retail sales touched a record 4,02,591 units last month, up from 3,26,656 units in May 2025, marking a growth of 23.25 per cent.
Dealers reported a visible rise in enquiries for fuel-efficient and alternative powertrain options, reflected in the share of electric vehicles (EVs) in the two-wheeler segment climbing to 9.25 per cent from 6.11 per cent a year earlier.
Two-wheeler sales also recorded their highest-ever monthly figure at 18,44,947 units in May 2026, compared with 17,15,581 units in the corresponding month last year, registering a growth of 7.54 per cent.
Three-wheeler sales stood at 1,11,526 units last month, up from 1,07,688 units in May 2025, reflecting a growth of 3.56 per cent.
Commercial vehicle sales also witnessed a 5.29 per cent increase, reaching a record 83,823 units in May, compared with 79,614 units in the same month last year, FADA added.
FADA said that, overall, the outlook for June 2026 appears measured but cautiously optimistic, with progress in the monsoon and improving rural cash flows expected to provide structural support, even as near-term cost pressures persist.
Looking ahead to June 2026, dealer sentiment remains positive but measured. As many as 50.52 per cent of dealers expect growth, 39.90 per cent anticipate a stable market, and only 9.59 per cent foresee a decline.
FADA said the passenger vehicle segment is likely to benefit from healthy booking pipelines, particularly in the EV category, as well as from new model launches.
