Arya News - Dart suffered the injury during the Giants` opening drive in their Monday night loss to the Rams.
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart will reportedly have knee surgery after getting hurt during Monday night"s 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams , according to ESPN"s Ian Rapoport. While he is expected to make a full recovery, his 2026 season will be over.
Per ESPN"s Adam Schefter, Dart"s injury includes damage to his MCL, PCL and meniscus. There is reportedly no ACL damage.
According to NFL Network"s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo on Tuesday, the MRI results showed that the damage was worse than expected.
Giants head coach John Harbaugh met with reporters on Tuesday afternoon and said that Dart was continuing to be evaluated and they had not made any decisions on the quarterback"s status. The team "learned a lot more" about the injury following the MRI.
"It"s an ongoing conversation about the health of a player, of a person," Harbaugh said. "We"ve got to prepare for the range of possibilities."
As for whether the injury could require season-ending surgery, Harbaugh said, "I don"t think I could really comment on that right now until we know for sure what"s going to transpire."
Dart suffered the injury in the first quarter and did not return to the game. X-rays were negative and the second-year signal-caller underwent an MRI on Tuesday after the team returned home from Los Angeles .
During the game"s opening drive, Dart dropped back to pass and jumped to make a throw downfield while under pressure. He was sandwiched between Rams linebackers Josaiah Stewart and Byron Young before falling to the ground holding his left knee.
After being tended to on the field, Dart limped off and was taken for further evaluation. He was initially listed as questionable to return before being ruled out. He returned later without his uniform and watched the remainder of the game from the sideline.
Jameis Winston , who signed a two-year, $13-million extension before Week 1, finished the game going 11-for-27 with 111 passing yards, an interception and taking two sacks.
Jaxson Dart among Giants" MNF injury concerns
Dart wasn"t the only injured Giant coming out of Monday night.
Wide receiver Malik Nabers injured his right shoulder in the first quarter. Nabers told reporters afterward that the shoulder popped out and he popped it back in, allowing him to return to the game the next series.
Linebacker Brian Burns had his left ankle rolled on by a Rams offensive lineman and needed help getting off the field. He limped his way to the Giants" locker room and was diagnosed with a low ankle sprain. He reportedly wore a boot on his left foot and while he said it"s " nothing serious ," it"s unclear if Burns will miss any time.
Left tackle Andrew Thomas suffered a groin injury on the team"s final offensive play, but no update has been provided on his status.
The Giants entered the game without cornerbacks Deonte Banks and Paulson Adebo , who were ruled out due to injury.
The Giants" next two games are at home against the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals . They will go back on the road for Week 5 to face the Washington Commanders and return home for Week 6 against the New Orleans Saints . They will then travel to take on the Houston Texans before their bye in Week 8.
