PHNOM PENH – The ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) conducted an inspection of the border situation in Pursat province’s Veal Veng district, this morning, November 5.
They noted that Thai troops appear to have moved an observation post near the CH1 Checkpoint about 20 metres forward and are continuing to dig fortifications in the area. They also visited a bridge that was destroyed by Thai airstrikes during the fighting of last November.
Both the observation post and the Stung Me Teuk Bridge are located in Thmor Da commune.
The Ministry of National Defence said the bridge was bombed by Thai air force fighter jets on December 13, 2025, leaving it completely impassable.
“Stung Me Teuk Bridge was civilian infrastructure, and is located several dozen kilometres from the Cambodia-Thailand border,” the ministry noted.
The ministry reaffirmed Cambodia’s full support for the ASEAN Observer Team, stressing the importance of strengthening its mandate to ensure the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire and other measures agreed upon by Cambodia and Thailand.
Strengthening the AOT’s role is essential to promoting transparency, accountability and mutual trust, the ministry said, adding that Cambodia also welcomes further assistance from friendly countries willing to contribute to the monitoring process.
The ministry urged Thailand to honour the agreements reached between the two countries, including the joint statement from the third special meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) on December 27, 2025, the October 26, 2025 joint declaration on the peace agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, and other relevant agreements.
