Arya News Agency -LONDON – A tanker was hit by three unidentified projectiles while transiting the Strait of Hormuz near Oman’s northern coast early Tuesday, according to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
The agency said it received a report of the incident approximately 31 kilometers (19 miles) from the Al-Khasab area in northern Oman. The attack caused a fire on board, which has since been extinguished.
“All crew members are safe, and no environmental damage has been reported,” UKMTO said in a statement, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The agency also warned nearby vessels to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
The tanker was exiting the Strait of Hormuz at the time of the attack, one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints for oil shipments. No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the strike.
