Washington Post Reveals Details of Vances Message to Rezaei

Washington Post Reveals Details of Vances Message to Rezaei
Arya News Agency -The Washington Post, citing a U.S. official, disclosed details of a message that U.S. Vice President JD Vance conveyed to Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council.

According to Aria, the official said: "Vance's message focused on reaffirming the priority of national interests, both for America and for Iran, in the negotiations," explaining that "Vance stressed that America's core interest is ensuring Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon."

The U.S. official continued: "The Trump administration considers Rezaei the only person who can build consensus on negotiations," while noting that "the White House believes the window of opportunity for reaching an agreement with Iran may be narrowing." He explained that Vance described Iran's interests as "economic reconstruction that wars and sanctions have eroded, and preserving national sovereignty," and stressed that "Iran must send representatives with sufficient authority to discuss nuclear issues."

According to the newspaper, Vance's move reflects the Trump administration's assessment that Rezaei is the key point of contact in Tehran and the only person who can build consensus on an agreement aimed at halting the nuclear program. U.S. intelligence officials believe Rezaei is in regular contact with Mojtaba Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and that the two have been in touch in recent days—since the receipt of Vance's message. The U.S. official noted that if a meeting between Vance and Rezaei were to take place, it would likely be in Istanbul, Turkey, or Doha, Qatar.

The White House believes the available opportunity to reach an agreement without a return to war may be beginning to shrink, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing for regime change as the only way to "permanently eliminate this threat." According to the newspaper, following Netanyahu's strong and unexpected showing in Tuesday's election, he still plays a decisive role in Israel.

Trump has also expressed his desire to "finish the job" regarding Iran, while the U.S. Department of War (Pentagon) is reinforcing its forces in the region; nevertheless, it is clear that Trump and Vance prefer a peace agreement to a renewed conflict. The newspaper noted that Vance's message poses a direct question to Rezaei and his colleagues in Iran's leadership: Are they prepared to resolve internal differences and negotiate binding restrictions on their nuclear program? This comes as Israel and the United States appear ready to resume military action, and decision-making in Tehran is a slow process, but its leaders may have little time at their disposal.
