Cost of War with Iran Tops $47 Billion as U.S. Military Casualties Mount and Pentagon Faces Budget Cuts
Arya News Agency -The consequences of the war with Iran for the U.S. military are becoming increasingly apparent, with rising numbers of wounded and killed among American forces, mounting financial pressure on the Pentagon, estimates showing the war's cost has exceeded $47 billion, and defense spending plans undergoing revisions that could affect the rebuilding of the U.S. military arsenal.

According to Aria, The Washington Post, citing the U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon), reported that 865 American service members have been wounded by enemy fire since the start of the war with Iran, and more than half of these injuries were recorded in attacks that occurred after the announcement of a ceasefire—a development that underscores the persistence of security risks despite the declared calm.

The newspaper added that the total announced death toll among U.S. military personnel during the war has reached 23 service members, reflecting the scale of human losses inflicted on American forces since the start of the confrontation. Financially, the rising cost of the war is compounding the challenges facing the U.S. government; Politico, citing informed sources, reported that the Pentagon and congressional budget committees are examining a defense budget roughly $1.1 trillion below the proposed level, and that the Pentagon is prepared, according to the report, to cut about $400 billion from the defense budget requested by Donald Trump.

These measures come as estimates put the cost of the war with Iran at no less than $47 billion—a figure that confronts Washington's decision-makers with a complex equation involving financing military operations, containing costs, and maintaining the combat readiness of American forces. The consequences of potential cuts are not limited to financial figures; they may slow efforts to rebuild U.S. weapons stockpiles depleted in the war and could disrupt plans to purchase new weapons systems and conclude defense agreements. These data raise questions about America's ability to balance the cost of military confrontation against the requirements of maintaining its defense superiority—especially if financial pressures are accompanied by a continued need to replenish munitions and weapons consumed in operations. Amid rising human losses, war cost inflation, and possible disagreements over spending priorities, Washington faces a dual test: managing the consequences of the confrontation with Iran while preserving its military's readiness without imposing additional difficult burdens on the defense budget.
