Arya News - Three murder cases and 10 unnatural death cases filed as residents raise fears over law and order.
DHAKA – At least 15 bodies were recovered in Barguna over the past 21 days, raising concerns among residents over the district’s law and order situation.
According to police, three murder cases and 10 unnatural death cases have been filed in connection with the incidents.
The latest incident occurred on June 14, when the body of police constable Faruk Hossain was recovered from the barracks of Taltali Police Station.
On June 13, the mutilated body of auto-rickshaw driver Mizanur Rahman was found in front of his house in Patharghata upazila. Four other bodies were also recovered from different parts of the district on the same day.
On June 12, Ibrahim Hossain Kalu, an accused in 13 cases, was killed in a mob beating, while on June 8 police recovered decapitated body of cattle trader Shamim from a canal in Gourichanna union.
On June 3, the bodies of a woman and her two children were recovered from the District Council Dak Bungalow in Barguna town.
Locals and rights activists said the incidents have heightened public anxiety and questioned the effectiveness of law enforcement in maintaining public safety.
Monir Hossain Kamal, former president of the Barguna chapter of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan), said the repeated recovery of bodies had increased public concern.
“People are becoming increasingly worried, but we are not seeing any effective measures from law enforcement agencies to address the situation,” he said, adding that, “We are committed to ensuring justice through the courts. Those of us serving in different state institutions are also working under a zero-tolerance policy.”
Police said investigations are underway and operations have been intensified across the district.
Barguna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdul Alim said all incidents were being investigated seriously.
“Three murder cases and 10 unnatural death cases have been filed over the body recovery. We are conducting thorough investigations and taking necessary legal action,” he said.
Confirming the total number of body recoveries, Superintendent of Police Md Kudrat-E-Khuda said special drives and awareness campaigns were being carried out across the district to maintain law and order.
