Arya News - Defence spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa shared VP Duterte’s current whereabouts during a press conference before Tuesday’s trial, confirming that Ms Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands.
MANILA – Vice President Sara Duterte is currently in The Hague, Netherlands even as the impeachment trial enters its eighth day, her defense team said Tuesday.
Defense spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa shared Duterte’s current whereabouts during a press conference before Tuesday’s trial proper.
“Sa ngayon, ang pagkakaalam ko, she is in the Hague (As far as I know, she is in the Hague),” said Poa.
Meanwhile, the Palace said that Duterte left the country as early as July 16, with her approved trip set until July 31. Her itinerary includes visits to Qatar, Germany, United Kingdom, Northern Ireland and the Netherlands
The Office of the Vice President (OVP), meanwhile, also confirmed in a statement that Duterte has already left for an overseas trip.
According to the OVP, Duterte’s trip includes stops in Qatar, participation in a forum and a Filipino community (FilCom) event in the United Kingdom, as well as in The Netherlands.
“These activities are intended to engage with overseas Filipinos and advance the Philippines’ interests abroad,” the OVP said.
“The itinerary includes both official foreign travel and personal engagements. No government funds will be used by the Vice President for the entire duration of the trip,” it added.
The OVP maintained that it would remain fully prepared and operational, with its disaster response mechanisms in place, in the event of emergencies.
The vice president’s father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, is currently in the custody of the International Criminal Court as he is set to face trial on crimes against humanity on Nov. 30.
Meanwhile, Vice President Duterte is facing several allegations, contained in four Articles of Impeachment, particularly:
Article I: Alleged misuse of P612.5 million in confidential funds from the Office of the Vice President, or P500 million, and the Department of Education, or DepEd, amounting to P112.5 million. Article II: Alleged unexplained wealth, failure to truthfully disclose assets in Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN), from 2022 to 2024, and failure to divest and willful continued business interests. Article III: Alleged bribery and procurement irregularities involving DepEd officials. Article IV: Alleged assassination threats against President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos and former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez. /gsg Read More:
