Arya News - It was previously reported that over 100 Rohingya refugees gathered in the area in front of the UNHCR office in Jalan Bukit Petaling on Monday. The group was allegedly evicted by the locals in Kampung Kuala Muda, Penaga, Penang, after being given one month to vacate their homes.
PETALING JAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has instructed the police and Immigration Department, as well as all relevant agencies, to take strict action after a group of Rohingya refugees gathered in front of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Kuala Lumpur.
He said action should be taken in accordance with the law to control the situation while ensuring that public order continues to be maintained.
“I am following developments regarding a group of Rohingya refugees gathered in front of the UNHCR office in Kuala Lumpur.
“Malaysia is a sovereign country. Therefore, every individual in this country is obliged to obey the laws in force.
“Any individual found not to have valid travel documents or permits will be subject to action in accordance with the law, including being placed at the Immigration Depot while further processes are carried out,” he said in a social media post on Monday (July 27).
It was previously reported that over 100 Rohingya refugees gathered in the area in front of the UNHCR office in Jalan Bukit Petaling on Monday.
According to Sinar Harian, some of the refugee families had set up small tents, while children were seen playing around the area.
Police and Armed Forces personnel were also seen monitoring the area to maintain order and security.
The group was allegedly evicted by the locals in Kampung Kuala Muda, Penaga, Penang, after being given one month to vacate their homes.
Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Hoo Chang Hook, when contacted by Sinar Harian, confirmed the presence of the refugees and said the situation remained under control.
