Arya News - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he formally authorized the rescission of Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, following the mandatory 45-day Congressional notification period.
Rubio also said Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham’s designation as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist organization has been delisted.The move removes major barriers to private-sector investment in Syria and supports the country’s economic recovery and reintegration into the global economy, according to the State Department.Rubio said the decision recognizes steps taken by the Syrian government under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, including efforts to distance Syria from acts of international terrorism and counter ISIS*, al-Qaeda*, Hezbollah and Iran-aligned groups.The move follows the fall of the Assad government in late 2024 and Syria’s decision in November 2025 to sign a political cooperation declaration with the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.*Terrorist groups outlawed in Russia and many other countries

“These actions represent another historic step by President Trump to give the Syrian people a path to prosperity,” Rubio added.
