AI won’t replace jobs, but Vietnam’s professionals feel less confident

AI won’t replace jobs, but Vietnam’s professionals feel less confident
Arya News - While 98 per cent of professionals in Vietnam are actively using AI at work and 83 per cent believe AI will positively impact their career opportunities, only 55 per cent are confident in keeping their AI skills up to date.

HANOI – With the highest artificial intelligence (AI) adoption rate among the markets surveyed, Việt Nam demonstrates a strong willingness to embrace AI in the workplace.
This information was released by recruitment company Robert Walters after surveying close to 5,000 professionals and companies across 10 Asian markets on the perceptions and usage of AI in an e-guide ‘The Jobs of Tomorrow: How AI is Reshaping Work Across Asia’.
While 98 per cent of professionals in Việt Nam are actively using AI at work and 83 per cent believe AI will positively impact their career opportunities, only 55 per cent are confident in keeping their AI skills up to date. This highlights the growing importance of continuous learning as AI continues to reshape the world of work.
Similar to the wider region, AI is increasingly viewed as a tool that enhances efficiency and supports execution rather than replacing human judgement. As organisations move beyond AI adoption towards long-term implementation, professionals are placing greater emphasis on how AI is governed and applied responsibly, while ensuring their skills remain relevant in an evolving workplace.
Accountability of AI decisions (48 per cent), skills becoming obsolete (45 per cent), and the potential loss of human touch (37 per cent) emerged as the leading concerns among professionals in Việt Nam.
AI usage is widespread across markets surveyed, with more than half (58 per cent) of employers in Asia having introduced AI in the workplace.
Of the professionals interviewed, 93 per cent are actively using AI and 75 per cent believe that AI will have a positive impact on their career opportunities.
Despite active usage, professionals in each market viewed AI’s impact differently. Higher usage markets such as Việt Nam (98 per cent) and the Philippines (95 per cent) report strong optimism about AI’s impact on careers, but they were not as confident in keeping their AI skills up to date. Mainland China stands out as the most optimistic market overall (88 per cent), while Taiwan shows the highest confidence in skills relevance (73 per cent) despite slightly lower optimism. Hong Kong and Singapore show comparatively weaker career outlooks (66 and 67 per cent respectively) despite widespread AI use.
Employers in Asia say that AI has the strongest impact where work is highly process-driven, data-intensive or operational, with the top three functions being: administration and business support (43 per cent), IT and digital transformation (35 per cent) and accounting and finance (32 per cent). As for professionals, they most commonly use AI to support content creation (47 per cent), data analysis (40 per cent) and research (38 per cent).
Phúc Phạm, Country Manager of Robert Walters Vietnam said: “Việt Nam’s exceptionally high AI adoption reflects the country’s readiness to embrace new technologies.
“As AI becomes more embedded across organisations, the conversation is shifting from adoption to implementation. Organisations that invest in developing employees’ critical thinking, sound judgement and adaptability will be better positioned to unlock AI’s long-term value while building a more resilient workforce.
“The findings also reinforce the need to make reskilling a core workforce strategy. As AI continues to reshape jobs, organisations will need to equip employees with the capabilities to adapt and thrive in an evolving workplace.
“In our latest Việt Nam Salary Survey, employers identified ‘Critical Thinking & Fact-checking, Data Analysis, and Ethical Decision-making’ as the most critical capabilities for success in an AI-driven workplace.
“Investing in these capabilities will help organisations unlock AI’s full potential while preparing their workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.”
These findings suggest that while AI is transforming and creating roles, it’s not necessarily replacing jobs. Workforce optimisation is a key objective of the introduction of AI for only 33 per cent of organisations surveyed.
