Japan’s Familymart to lower prices of 4 onigiri rice balls from Sept. 22

Japan’s Familymart to lower prices of 4 onigiri rice balls from Sept. 22
Arya News - More convenience store operators have been lowering their onigiri prices, mainly because rice has been getting cheaper.

TOKYO – FamilyMart Co. will lower the prices of four of its onigiri rice balls by ¥11 each starting Sept. 22, the operator said Wednesday.
The convenience store chain said it has reviewed the procurement processes for its ingredients, so there will be no changes to their quality or quantity despite the lower prices.
The price cuts will be applied to FamilyMart’s Jikamaki series of rice balls wrapped in nori seaweed. For example, the price of an onigiri filled with grilled salmon will fall to ¥187 from its current level of ¥198, and one with tuna and mayonnaise will be sold at ¥174, down from ¥185 at present.
More convenience store operators have been lowering their onigiri prices, mainly because rice has been getting cheaper. Lawson, Inc., for example, will lower its prices for 20 products by ¥10 or ¥11 each starting Sept. 29, and Seven-Eleven Japan Co. will bring down the prices of two items in its onigiri lineup by about ¥19 each.
