            Asian Games kick off in Japan with 1st matches
            Arya News - The games are often referred to as the “Asian Olympics.” This is the third time they have been held in Japan in the summer – following the 1958 games in Tokyo and the 1994 games in Hiroshima.

            TOKYO – Competition began at the Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 on Thursday, ahead of the opening ceremony on Sept. 19.
            Men’s basketball matches took place at the Aichi International Arena in Nagoya. In the first game, which began at 10 a.m., Iran and Qatar faced off in Group B. Japan, in Group A, is to face Indonesia at 7 p.m., for Japan’s first match at the games.
            The games are often referred to as the “Asian Olympics.” This is the third time they have been held in Japan in the summer — following the 1958 games in Tokyo and the 1994 games in Hiroshima — and it is the first time for them to be held here in 32 years. Before the opening ceremony, first round matches are scheduled for men’s and women’s soccer, as well as for women’s volleyball.
