BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Brunei Darussalam and China reaffirmed their longstanding defence ties and discussed opportunities to strengthen practical cooperation during a bilateral meeting between senior defence officials in Beijing.
Coordinating Minister for National Security, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof held the meeting with China’s Minister of National Defense Admiral Dong Jun on the sidelines of the 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.
Both sides exchanged views on regional and international security developments and discussed further strengthening practical defence cooperation.
They also underscored the importance of continued engagement through ASEAN-led mechanisms, particularly the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus).
The minister is attending the Beijing Xiangshan Forum, held from September 15 to 17 at the Beijing International Convention Centre.
The forum, co-hosted by the China Association for Military Science and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies, brings together nearly 100 official delegations, including more than 60 ministerial-level and senior military representatives.
This year’s forum is themed “Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together”, with discussions covering regional and global security issues, including strategic stability, localised conflicts, Asia-Pacific security, maritime security and emerging military technologies.
The Brunei delegation includes Commandant of the Training Institute, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Lieutenant Colonel Pengiran Aeddie Masjaffrie bin Pengiran Haji Md Ja’afar, and officers from the Ministry of Defence.
