Arya News - Williams suffered what appeared to be a serious injury on a fourth-quarter scramble during the Bears` Week 2 loss to the Vikings.
Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams avoided a serious injury to his right hamstring based on imaging exams, The Ringer"s Tom Pelissero reports .
Williams could even play the Bears" Week 3 Monday night matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles . That would be a surprisingly unexpected development, considering the scene Sunday at Soldier Field during the fourth quarter of Chicago"s 9-3 loss to the Minnesota Vikings .
However, Bears head coach Ben Johnson acknowledged that his quarterback " will likely miss some time " while appearing on ESPN 1000 with Bears broadcaster Jeff Joniak.
Williams sustained the injury while scrambling to his left and attempting to run toward the end zone. The Bears QB fell to the ground and quickly grabbed the back of his left leg.
Observers immediately suspected that Williams had hurt his knee or perhaps even his Achilles tendon, since he went down with no contact.
Williams was on the ground and could be heard screaming in pain on the Fox telecast as trainers approached to check on him. He eventually was able to stand up and tried to walk off the field with help, but couldn"t put any weight on his leg. Williams was eventually taken away on a cart to the locker room, giving a thumbs-up to the fans.
Prior to leaving the game, Williams completed 15 of 26 passes for 138 yards and was sacked three times. He also rushed for 42 yards on 5 attempts.
Tyson Bagent took over at quarterback for the Bears and nearly led the team to a comeback victory. But Cairo Santos had a 23-yard field goal try blocked to finish the drive during which Williams was injured.
That wasn"t the only issue the Bears had in the red zone.
Six minutes into the third quarter, Chicago was driving toward a touchdown but running back D"Andre Swift fumbled near the goal line, negating that scoring opportunity.
On Chicago"s final possession, Bagent connected on an 18-yard pass to Luther Burden and 21-yard play to Rome Odunze . Following an 8-yard completion to Burden, the Bears were on the Vikings" 12-yard line with 10 seconds remaining. However, Bagent threw two incompletions and was sacked by Dallas Turner as time expired.
The Bears dropped to 1-1 with the defeat, while Minnesota improved to 2-0. As mentioned, Chicago hosts the Philadelphia Eagles (2-0) next Monday night. The Vikings visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-2).
