KUALA LUMPUR – Perikatan Nasional has been deregistered by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
In a statement on Tuesday (Oct 20), ROS said Perikatan was issued a notice dated Sept 22 to submit an explanation and representations regarding matters raised under Subsection 13(2) of the Societies Act 1966.
“The notice gave Perikatan an opportunity to submit explanations and representations regarding the matters stated therein.
“Following this, we (ROS) received a response from Perikatan on Oct 12.
“After examining all the submitted documents and explanations, we found that the reasons given did not refute the grounds for deregistration stated in the notice or provide sufficient justification for maintaining the coalition’s registration.
“Consequently, we have decided to cancel Perikatan’s registration under Subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of the Societies Act,” the statement read.
ROS stressed that every registered organisation is responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Act and its respective constitution.
It said the department would continue to carry out regulatory and enforcement functions firmly, fairly and in accordance with the law to ensure organisations were governed in an orderly, transparent and ethical manner.
