Arya News Agency -TEHRAN – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles at two US airbases in Jordan early Monday, in a retaliatory operation dubbed “Punishment of the Aggressor,” following an American airstrike on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz that killed at least two Iranian personnel and wounded several others.
The IRGC’s aerospace force targeted the King Hussein and Al-Azraq airbases, destroying technical infrastructure, maintenance facilities, and fighter jet hangars, according to a statement by the IRGC public relations office. The operation was carried out using a combination of missiles and drones under the code name “Ya Muhammad ibn Abdullah.”
“The enemy’s aggression will not go unanswered,” the IRGC said in a statement, warning that “any further violation will be met with even more crushing responses.”
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) earlier confirmed it had conducted a “limited and precise” strike on Iranian forces it claimed were planting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian officials have dismissed the US justification as a pretext for escalation.
Regional media reported multiple explosions near the two bases in southern and eastern Jordan, as well as the movement of US aerial refueling tankers away from Gulf bases amid fears of further Iranian strikes.
A spokesperson for the IRGC described the US attack as a “strategic and fatal miscalculation,” saying it would not help Washington gain leverage in the ongoing “economic war” against Tehran.
Iranian officials have not yet released final casualty figures or detailed damage assessments from the Larak attack.
