( NewsNation ) — The Louvre announced this week that the crown of Empress Eugénie, an iconic piece of jewelry left behind in the heist of the museum in late 2025, will be fully restored.
The Louvre Heist rocked the globe last October, when thieves entered the world’s most visited museum’s Apollon Gallery and stole eight pieces of Napoleonic jewelry .
One piece, Eugénie’s emerald-set imperial crown with more than 1,300 diamonds , was later found outside the museum, damaged but repairable.

Because the crown ended up missing only a single decorative element, the museum said it will be restored “without resorting to reconstruction or re-creation.”

Commissioned by Napoleon III for the 1855 Paris Universal Exhibition, the crown “will be entrusted to an accredited restorer, following a competitive bidding process,” the museum said.
The whereabouts of the eight stolen jewels, valued at around $102 million , remain unknown. At least seven people have been arrested since the investigation into the heist began, according to Euro News .
