Extremists use online games to recruit members: Malaysia deputy police chief
Arya News - Speaking to the media after the launch of his autobiography "Dari Pendang Ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti", he said extremists` recruitment methods have evolved, including using multiplayer games.

KUALA LUMPUR – The threat from militant and extremist elements will never go away as they constantly evolve, using new approaches and techniques to recruit members, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
Speaking to the media after the launch of his autobiography “Dari Pendang Ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti”, he said extremists’ recruitment methods have evolved, including using multiplayer games.
“Previously, recruitment was done in person but now it’s all online. They use video games such as Roblox to approach new members, as well as other ways,” he said during the launch at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club here on Thursday (July 23).
He added that extremist ideologies have also changed, with less emphasis on religion.
“In some cases, the feeling of deep anger led to attacks – that is what we found when some teenagers were arrested recently.
“That is why the police must always be at the forefront to detect such issues,” said Ayob Khan, adding authorities cannot afford to be merely reactive or the country would be vulnerable to an attack.
“That is why E8 and other divisions must not be lax,” he said, adding that it is the duty of the Special Branch detect and stop such elements before any attacks can occur.
