Arya News - Azzi Fudd has been dealing with right knee soreness and has missed the Wings` last five games as a result.
Azzi Fudd"s rookie season is over.
Fudd will miss the rest of the season and will undergo an arthroscopic procedure on her right knee, the Dallas Wings announced on Wednesday. Fudd will undergo the procedure in Connecticut early next week. A specific timeline for her return is not yet known.
Fudd hasn"t played since a loss to the Washington Mystics on Aug. 5, when she dropped nine points and had three steals in 34 minutes. Fudd did not play in the Wings" game against the Golden State Valkyries two days later after experiencing soreness in her knee during pregame warmups, and she"s been sidelined dealing with that ever since.
The Wings selected Fudd with the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft earlier this year. She"s averaged 13.1 points, 1.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds per contest.
Fudd"s offseason plans are now in doubt, too. She has committed to play in Project B , an international league that is set to launch in December and run through April 2027 in direct competition with Unrivaled, the Miami-based 3-on-3 league.
The Wings have eight games left in the regular season, starting with Thursday"s contest against the Indiana Fever . They currently hold a 20-16 record, which has them in eighth in the league standings, just barely clinging to a playoff spot. They"ve lost four of the five games that Fudd has been absent for, too. If the Wings can hang on, they"ll make it into the postseason for the first time since 2023.
While they still have plenty of pieces available — including star Paige Bueckers and veteran guard Arike Ogunbowale — things will undoubtedly be much more difficult in the final stretch of the season without Fudd around.
