Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan will sign a treaty on eternal friendship during the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, press service of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reported.
On Sunday, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Uzbekistan on a state visit. On Sunday, at the "Kuksaroy" residence in Tashkent, the presidents of the two countries held a meeting in a narrow format and the third meeting of the Supreme Interstate Council.
"Confirmation of this will be the signing of the treaty on eternal friendship following the summit. Most importantly, every point of our strategic partnership and alliance will be materialized in concrete, tangible deeds," Mirziyoyev said.
Azerbaijani Presidential Aide Hikmet Hajiyev also confirmed the country"s intention to sign the treaty on eternal friendship.
"As part of this visit, the heads of state will sign a treaty on relations of eternal friendship, based on the will of the peoples, common history and cultural roots. In other words, the eternal friendship between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, which already exists de facto, will also acquire the character of eternal friendship in the political sphere," Hajiyev told Azerbaijani media.
According to Aliyev"s aide, relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan already have the character of a strategic alliance.
"After the contacts between the presidents of the two countries in 2022, Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations entered a new stage of development and reached a new level. Since then, relations between the two states have moved from strategic partnership to alliance, and now to eternal friendship. This is the first such case in Azerbaijan"s diplomatic practice," Hajiyev noted.
