Arya News - The Texans have found their replacement for injured WR Jayden Higgins.
The Patriots have traded WR Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans for safety Jaylen Reed and a draft pick, per The Ringer"s Tom Pelissero .
The move helps clear up some space in what had become a crowded receiver room in New England , while also giving the Texans some added depth at the position.
Boutte, 24, settled into a solid complementary role over the past two seasons with the Patriots, catching a combined 76 passes for 1,140 yards and 9 TDs in 29 games (23 starts). In last season"s playoffs, Boutte led the Patriots with 168 receiving yards in four postseason games.
It"s understandable why Boutte would want to go elsewhere this season. With the Patriots signing Romeo Doubs and trading for A.J. Brown , it left Boutte"s role in doubt. The Patriots still have Mack Hollins back, and there are two other young receivers on the roster, DeMario Douglas and Kyle Williams , who could be in line for more snaps and production volume.
There was speculation in June, after the Brown trade was official following months of anticipation, that Boutte could have quietly let New England know that he wouldn"t mind playing elsewhere in 2026 .
This is a crucial season for Boutte. The former sixth-round draft pick is entering a contract year, set to hit free agency in the spring, and now appears to have a better chance to increase his market value with a big season in Houston vs. a more crowded New England depth chart.
The move comes on the heels of Texans wide receiver Jayden Higgins tearing his ACL during training camp. He was ruled out for the remainder of the 2026 season.
Boutte was used primarily as a perimeter threat in the past two seasons and was effective on vertical shots, but he was also used occasionally in the slot. His production peaked in the first half of last season, before a hamstring injury that reemerged in the postseason, despite some strong playoff moments.
The 5-foot-11, 197-pound Boutte projects as a complementary receiver for the Texans alongside Nico Collins , but the progress he"s shown the past two seasons suggests there might be some untapped reserves that could elevate his game slightly more.
