            58% of Japanese back decision to skip Yasukuni Shrine visit on end-of-war anniversary
            Arya News - Japan Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s decision to refrain from the visit was viewed positively by a broad cross-section of the public.

            TOKYO – Among those who responded to a recent Yomiuri Shimbun poll, 58% said it was appropriate for Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to postpone her visit to Yasukuni Shrine on the anniversary of the end of World War II, while 29% said they did not think it was appropriate.
            Those who said it was appropriate accounted for 61% of Cabinet supporters and 58% of those who did not support the Cabinet.
            Takaichi’s decision to refrain from the visit was viewed positively by a broad cross-section of the public. By political party affiliation, approval was 61% among ruling party supporters, 69% among opposition party supporters, and 53% among those unaffiliated with any party.
            By gender, 59% of men and 56% of women thought putting off the visit was appropriate, showing little difference. By age, the largest group in every generation believed the decision was appropriate: 63% among those aged 40–59 and 59% among those 60 and older.
            Among those aged 18–39, however, only 49% believed it was appropriate, compared to the 32% who did not.
