Arya News - Earlier, Malaysia`s Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the government would review the scale and venue for the National Day celebrations, following worsening haze conditions in several areas, including Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
CYBERJAYA – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes the haze situation will improve so this year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations can proceed smoothly.
“We are preparing to celebrate Malaysia’s Independence Day, followed by Malaysia Day on Sept 16.
“Let us pray to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala that the haze situation will be brought under control so that these celebrations can be held,” he said after launching TM’s 80th anniversary celebrations here on Wednesday (Aug 26).
Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
Earlier, Fahmi said the government would review the scale and venue for the National Day celebrations following worsening haze conditions in several areas, including Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Sarawak.
He said the decision was made at a Cabinet meeting after taking into account updates from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).
Fahmi said Shamsul Azri would chair a discussion with relevant ministries and agencies on Wednesday afternoon to assess whether the celebrations could be held.
The review comes as authorities monitor the haze situation nationwide ahead of the National Day celebrations.
