LSU soccer`s Jocelyn Ollivierre, Jazmin Ferguson become first 5th-year seniors to use extra eligibility granted by Louisiana judge

LSU soccer`s Jocelyn Ollivierre, Jazmin Ferguson become first 5th-year seniors to use extra eligibility granted by Louisiana judge
Arya News - Olliverre and Ferguson, two of the athletes who were granted a temporary restraining order to return to college for another year, played just under an hour of Sunday`s game against Arizona.

The effects of a Louisiana judge"s temporary restraining order granting a fifth year of eligibility to a group of athletes is starting to make its way onto the field. On Sunday, two of those fifth-year seniors, Jocelyn Ollivierre and Jazmin Ferguson, became the first beneficiaries of that ruling to play for their college teams, via Matt Moscana of LouisianaSports.net .
Ollivierre and Ferguson, both fifth-year defenders on LSU"s women"s soccer team, entered Sunday"s game against Arizona in the 22nd minute. Neither defender started the game, but both played nearly 60 minutes of the match. LSU went on to draw with Arizona, 1-1.
Both players were part of the 2022 recruiting class, the class which is the only one to not benefit from the NCAA"s new "five in five" model — a discrepancy which led to the lawsuits. Ollivierre and Ferguson were part of the 33 total players who were granted eligibility by the lawsuit, per multiple reports, which was led by former LSU football player Jack Pyburn as the primary plaintiff.
Though Ollivierre and Ferguson are the first plaintiffs of the Louisiana lawsuit to make their 2026 season debut, they aren"t the first overall: Stephen F. Austin receiver Kylon Harris hit the milestone first, appearing in the Lumberjacks" win over McNeese State on Saturday after a temporary restraining order was granted by a Texas judge.
LSU women"s soccer has two other fifth-year seniors on their roster . One, Allie Fryer, is a transfer from BYU; the other, Kelsey Major, is a captain. Neither appear to be part of the Louisiana lawsuit.
Ollivierre rejoins the team after four years as a Tiger, including time as a senior captain last season. Ferguson, who transferred to LSU from East Carolina ahead of her junior year, will now play her third year with the team.
Ferguson"s return, however, has a wrinkle: The defender signed with USL Super League side Tampa Bay Sun FC in July. Though she did not play in any games, she becomes the latest player to return to college play after signing a professional deal.
Most likely, Ferguson will not be affected by the SEC"s recent ban on professional players , which applies only to players who had appeared on NFL, NBA (or affiliate) or WNBA rosters.
The SEC and LSU, which has benefited the most from the court rulings, are now trapped in a battle over eligibility.
Dae"Quan Wright became the first football player to go from pro back to college, joining LSU and reuniting with his old coach Lane Kiffin after being waived by the Cleveland Browns in preseason. Kiffin has tried to defend his recruitment, despite the move inciting pushback from his own conference .
Basketball player RJ Luis also attempted to join LSU"s squad after being granted a temporary injunction. Luis went undrafted after the 24-2025 season and signed deals with multiple NBA G League teams, though he did not appear in any games.
Like many other athletes involved in these lawsuits, Ollivierre"s and Ferguson"s spots on the team may be subject to appeals and other outside factors. For now, though, they are able to play.
