PHNOM PENH – Cambodian customs authorities at Techo International Airport seized more than 140kg of narcotics in the first two weeks of September.

According to the General Department of Customs and Excise, on September 9, customs officials, in cooperation with immigration police at the departure terminal, detained three foreigners who were travelling with 146 packages of dried plant material suspected to be cannabis, with a combined net weight of 73.017kg, as well as more than 6kg of a white powder believed to be heroin.
A day earlier, on September 8, they arrested a foreign passenger who was preparing to leave Cambodia with 19 small packages of methamphetamine weighing a total of 186g.
On September 6, authorities discovered another foreigner had attempted to conceal 28 packages of cannabis weighing nearly 28kg in their luggage.
On September 3, authorities, acting on information from the Global Travel Assessment System (GTAS), along with images from scanning equipment, identified another would be weed smuggler preparing to depart the Kingdom. They found 71 packages of cannabis weighing more than 34kg.
A day earlier, they arrested a Malaysian passenger who was about to fly to Taiwan, after discovering 81 small packages of heroin weighing a total of 570g concealed among their belongings.
