The meeting underscored the two neighbors` shared call for greater unity within the SCO amid shifting global turbulence.
BEIJING – Exchanges and cooperation between China and Russia have maintained a dynamic momentum of development, President Xi Jinping said on Monday when meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
In May, Putin made a successful state visit to China. Xi noted that he and Putin had made arrangements from a strategic, long-term perspective to take bilateral relations to a higher quality and a higher level of development.
They also reached consensus on deepening cooperation across various fields under new circumstances.
Both countries’ relevant authorities are actively implementing the consensus and have already achieved many outcomes, Xi said.
He expressed confidence that under their strategic guidance and through joint efforts, the foundation of the relationship will become more solid, progress will be steadier, and prospects will be brighter.
Putin noted that bilateral cooperation has developed rapidly.
Russia is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China, strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, industry, transportation, and science and technology, and enhance people-to-people exchanges, he said.
Speaking on the international situation, Xi said currently changes unseen in a century are accelerating, and uncertainties and unforeseeable factors in the international landscape have markedly increased.
However, pursuit of peace, development, cooperation and win-win outcomes by peoples around the world remains unchanged, he said.
The SCO shoulders the mission of maintaining regional stability and promoting development, he said.
Putin said Russia and China should continuously strengthen unity and cooperation within the SCO and play a leading role.
