Japan’s doomsday clock advances 6 minutes amid rising lifestyle sustainability concerns
Arya News - This is the second year in a row in which the The Asahi Glass Foundation`s Environmental Doomsday Clock has moved closer to midnight – representing the point at which humanity can no longer keep living the way it has up to now.

TOKYO – The Asahi Glass Foundation on Tuesday announced that the time on their Environmental Doomsday Clock, which indicates the danger to the sustainability of the human race posed by deterioration of the global environment, would be set to 9:39 this year, six minutes later than last year.
It was a somber outcome, as this is the second year in a row in which the time has moved closer to 12:00, which represents the point at which humanity can no longer keep living the way it has up to now.
Since 1992, the foundation has been conducting opinion surveys of government officials and experts with connections to environmental problems in Japan and other countries and using the information obtained to calculate what time to set the clock to. This year, they obtained responses from 1,464 people from 123 countries.
The clock is divided into quadrants based on the level of concern that the different times represent, with times past 9:00 falling into the fourth and most severe sector, “Extremely Concerned.” The foundation says the environment could face impacts from issues like stagnating international cooperation to protect the environment amid the Russia-Ukraine war and continuing tensions in the Middle East.
