Kushne Aunshi festival in Nepal honours fathers, keeps ancestral traditions alive
Arya News - Devotees across Nepal marked the Hindu festival with offerings to their fathers and rituals to remember departed ancestors.

KATHMANDU – Hindu devotees across Nepal observed Kushe Aunshi on Friday, honouring their fathers and paying tribute to deceased ancestors.
The festival is traditionally marked by children offering their fathers their favourite foods and expressing love, respect and gratitude.
Those whose fathers have died gathered at sacred sites to perform rituals including shraddha, tarpan and pindadan. At Gokarneshwar Mahadev Temple in north-eastern Kathmandu, popularly known as Uttar Gaya, devotees performed the rites on the banks of the Bagmati river.
Large numbers of devotees also visited the Pashupatinath Temple and other religious sites across the country.
Also known as Gokarne Aunshi, the day holds a dual significance in Hindu tradition, celebrating the bond between children and their fathers while providing an occasion to remember and honour departed family members.
Kushe Aunsi falls on the new moon day of the Nepali month of Bhadra. The day is also associated with the collection of kush, a sacred grass used in Hindu rituals throughout the year.
Here are photos of devotees who gathered at the Gokarneshwar Temple to perform rituals for their deceased fathers.
