Arya News - The representative said that it is necessary not to be like a crowd gathering plums while requesting a budget year after year.
YANGON – U Hla Htay, a representative of the Yangon Region Hluttaw for Thon Kwa Township, questioned whether Yangon Region Government departments have requested a uniform price for purchasing certain office equipment and whether all departments have discussed and submitted a budget request in a unified manner.
U Hla Htay, a representative of the Yangon Region Hluttaw for Thonburi Township, raised this question during a discussion on the Yangon Region’s 2027-2028 fiscal year budget at the Yangon Region Hluttaw meeting held today (October 21).
U Hla Htay, a representative of the Yangon Region Hluttaw for the 2027-2028 fiscal year, said that it is remarkable that all departments have requested the same price for a computer at 80 million baht, a laptop at 80 million baht, a metal cabinet at 10 million baht, a photocopier at 19 million baht, a chair at 40 million baht, and some other office equipment.
“I’m starting to wonder if all departments come together and discuss and submit a budget request, or if each department sets prices and requests the same budget. In fact, the cost of using each department cannot be different,” said U Hla Htay, a regional parliament member.
“What I want to emphasize is that we don’t have to be like people who are constantly asking for a budget year after year,” he continued.
He suggested that the cost of 1,183.350 million kyats for filling the park land in the Thukhadagon Housing Complex in the Yangon Region’s budget estimate for the 2027-2028 fiscal year should be reviewed in detail as it is too high.
In addition, he said, it was also found that the Thanlyin Municipality had requested the same amount of 200 million kyats per vehicle for major repairs, with two vehicles from Thanlyin Municipality, one from Thonkhoa Municipality, five vehicles from Khyum Municipality, three vehicles from Kunchankon Municipality, and three vehicles from Taikgyi Municipality.
“We should review the feasibility and only pay about 1.5 million baht per vehicle. We have found that the vehicle repair costs of various departments are being overstated,” said U Hla Htay, a regional parliament member.
In addition, some regional parliamentarians criticized the Yangon City Development Committee’s Urban Land Management Department for allocating 54 billion kyats in land sales proceeds, and pointed out that it should clearly state where the land is from, the size of the land, the price it will be sold at, and to whom and when it will be sold.
