Arya News Agency -NEW YORK – Iran's envoy to the United Nations has formally rejected renewed accusations against Tehran's peaceful nuclear program as politically motivated rather than technically grounded, declaring in a letter to the Security Council president that Resolution 2231 expired on October 18, 2025, ending all nuclear-related restrictions and removing the non-proliferation file from the Council's agenda.
In the letter dated September 10, 2026, addressed to France's permanent representative—current Council president for September—Ambassador Gholamhossein Darzi described the session on the so-called "1737 Committee" as a blatant abuse of the Council's procedures and authority.
Darzi emphasized that the E3 never activated the snapback mechanism because they lacked the legal standing to do so, having failed to meet their own JCPOA and Resolution 2231 obligations. He laid primary blame for the current situation on what he called unlawful U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran's safeguarded peaceful nuclear facilities over the past two years—actions he said constitute aggression, gross violations of the UN Charter, and a severe erosion of confidence in the safeguards system and the non-proliferation regime.
The envoy stressed that Iran has been a committed NPT member since 1970 and has been under extensive IAEA supervision for nearly 25 years, with the Agency never reporting any diversion of nuclear material. He criticized the non-consensual IAEA Board of Governors resolution adopted September 9, 2026 as politically driven by the U.S. and E3 and silent on illegal attacks against safeguarded Iranian facilities.
Darzi called on the Security Council to adhere fully to the UN Charter and international law and to reject opportunistic efforts to politicize its procedures, and requested that the letter be circulated as an official Council document.
