Arya News - Brunei and Malaysia have renewed an agreement to deepen economic cooperation and expand trade and investment between their business communities. The two chambers will support business missions, trade events, and partnerships across key sectors.
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen economic cooperation and expand commercial exchange between the business communities of Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia was officially inked at a signing ceremony held at the BEDB Main Auditorium, Design and Technology Building yesterday.
The signing was witnessed by Permanent Secretary (Economy and Trade) at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, who was present as the guest of honour.
Yesterday’s signing between the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Brunei Darussalam (NCCIBD) and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (NCCIM) was signed by the two national chambers and their respective business councils namely the Brunei Darussalam–Malaysia Business Council (BDMBC) and the Malaysia–Brunei Darussalam Business Council (MBDBC).
Signing for Brunei Darussalam were Deputy President of NCCIBD and Chairman of the BDMBC Haji Musa bin Haji Adnin and Vice President of NCCIBD Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Saim, while Malaysia was represented by President of NCCIM Norsyahrin Hamidon and Chairman of the MBDBC Raja Dato’ Sri Mufik Affandi Raja Khalid.
Under the renewed memorandum, the two chambers will encourage and facilitate activities that develop economic cooperation and promote commercial exchange between companies in Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia. This includes facilitating commercial and economic cooperation agreements between interested companies, exchanging information on foreign trade, production and export opportunities, investment and market trends, and on the economic and commercial legislation applicable in each jurisdiction.
At the same time, the chambers will also assist one another in organising and supporting company participation in exhibitions, trade fairs and similar activities in both countries, and will encourage the exchange of trade delegations and business missions, providing the facilities needed to develop trade relations between the two business communities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Haji Musa noted that the renewal of this Memorandum reflects the enduring friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Malaysia, and the confidence business communities of both countries place in one another.
“Our task now is to turn this framework into concrete projects and partnerships that create real opportunity for companies on both sides.”
The signing follows a welcome dinner hosted on the evening of August 21, 2026 for the visiting Malaysian delegation.
Both chambers will now work through the BDMBC and the MBDBC to develop a joint work programme, including business missions, sector-focused engagements and participation in trade events in the two countries.
