Arya News - Myanmar and China have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen customs cooperation, capacity building and coordination at their shared border. Officials also discussed digital transformation, AI technology and measures to improve cross-border trade and supply-chain resilience.
YANGON – A memorandum of understanding on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters has been signed between the Myanmar and Chinese customs departments.
A Myanmar delegation led by Deputy Minister of Finance and Revenue U Han Win Aung attended the 2026 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and Customs High-Level Dialogue (APEC Customs Business Dialogue), held in Dalian, People’s Republic of China, from August 20 to 21. The delegation signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters between the Customs Departments of Myanmar and China.
HE Sun Meijun, Minister of the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China, delivered a speech at the meeting, and Vice Minister Zhang Baofeng chaired the meeting. On the first morning, the two sides discussed promoting technology and innovation, building modern customs cooperation and partnerships, facilitating trade, food safety and logistics, and strengthening supply-chain connectivity.
Afterwards, Deputy Minister U Han Win Aung and his team met with the Chinese customs deputy minister and his team and signed a memorandum of understanding covering issues such as promoting technical cooperation between the two countries, enhancing capacity building, and strengthening cooperation at the Myanmar-China border.
On the second day of the conference, they discussed AI technology and digital transformation that can boost cross-border trade in the Asia-Pacific region, as well as improving the stability, resilience and predictability of supply chains.
The meeting was attended by senior government officials from the customs, finance and agriculture sectors of APEC member countries, representatives from international organisations, business leaders from China and other countries, and representatives from educational institutions.
