Arya News - The bodies of the four family members were recovered from their locked house in the Daspara (Machhuapara) area of Rangpur city at around 11:30pm on Aug 22, 2026.
DHAKA – Police have detained two cousins for their involvement with the killings of a retired schoolteacher, his wife and their two children at their home in Rangpur city.
The detainees are Mughdho and Siddhartha.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud said at a briefing today, the two allegedly entered the rooftop of Ganapati Chakraborty’s house through neighbouring building and took yaba there on Thursday night.
After hearing noises, Ganapati, 65, a retired Rangpur Zilla School teacher, went to the roof top and questioned the two men about their presence there.
To avoid their identities being exposed, the suspects strangled him with the gamchha (thin cotton towel ) he had been carrying on his shoulder.
Ganapati struggled to save himself, causing a commotion, police said.
Hearing the noise, his wife, Pritilata Chakraborty, 50, went upstairs.
The suspects allegedly strangled her with a piece of cloth on the staircase, the official said.
The couple’s daughter, Agami Chakraborty Prarthi, 23, and son, Priyam Chakraborty, 12, were also killed during the incident, police said.
The bodies of the four family members were recovered from their locked house in the Daspara (Machhuapara) area of Rangpur city at around 11:30pm yesterday.
Ganapati’s body was found on the roof, while the bodies of Pritilata and Agami were recovered from the staircase. Priyam’s body was found under a bed inside the house.
The commissioner said, the identities of the two suspects were established through a joint investigation involving Rangpur Metropolitan Police, the Criminal Investigation Department and the Detective Branch.
Police said the family had no known disputes or enmity with anyone.
