IRGC Announces Strike on U.S. Drone Vessel Attempting Intrusion into Restricted Zone in the Strait of Hormuz

IRGC Announces Strike on U.S. Drone Vessel Attempting Intrusion into Restricted Zone in the Strait of Hormuz
Arya News Agency -TEHRAN, Sunday – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced today that its naval forces had “targeted an unmanned U.S. military vessel” that was allegedly attempting to enter a designated prohibited area within the Strait of Hormuz, in the latest escalation of hostilities between Tehran and Washington along one of the world’s most strategically vital maritime corridors.

In a statement carried by Iranian state-affiliated media, the IRGC confirmed that its maritime units “struck an American military drone boat that was trying to breach the restricted zone in the strait,” though the communiqué provided no further details regarding the nature of the damage sustained by the craft or its subsequent fate.

The announcement comes amid rapidly intensifying military friction between Iran and the United States around the Strait of Hormuz, following a Saturday statement by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) that American forces had engaged three Iranian oil tankers in what Washington characterized as a retaliatory response to the IRGC’s earlier ballistic-missile launches directed at two U.S. Navy vessels.

The region is now witnessing a spiral of mutual strikes that increasingly threatens the safety and flow of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz—a critical chokepoint for global petroleum trade—with growing international concern that the widening confrontation between the two sides could disrupt energy supplies and commercial shipping across the Persian Gulf.
