Arya News - A wave of coordinated bombings and arson attacks struck Thailand’s southern border provinces on Saturday night, August 22, targeting public infrastructure, government vehicles, and commercial properties across Yala, Narathiwat, and Pattani.
BANGKOK – A series of attacks was reported across Thailand’s three southern border provinces from about 8.15pm on Saturday (August 22, 2026), with incidents occurring simultaneously at multiple locations.
Forward Operations Coordination Centre 4 gave a preliminary tally of 34 incidents as of 9.42pm.
The centre grouped the incidents into four types
22 involving arson or burning Six involving bombs Three involving shots fired to cause disruption Three involving property damage The provincial breakdown comprised 14 incidents in Yala, 13 in Narathiwat and five in Pattani.
Two further incidents remained under examination.
A separate summary issued at 10.50pm covered 13 districts.
Narathiwat incidents include bombings and two injuries
Narathiwat accounted for 13 incidents in the 9.42pm update, which identified Ra-ngae, Cho-airong, Yi-ngo, Waeng, Tak Bai and Bacho districts.
The 10.50pm summary listed Mueang Narathiwat, Cho-airong, Chanae, Si Sakhon, Ra-ngae, Yi-ngo and Bacho, while earlier information also named Su-ngai Padi and Rueso.
Ra-ngae district Initial information indicated that bombs had been planted at two locations, Buke Bue Ro village in Village No. 4 of Marue Botok subdistrict and the road linking Kampong Pare and Kuching Luepa villages. The later summary counted one bombing in the district. An arson attack was also listed at the Bo-ngo Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO). A pickup belonging to the SAO was said to have been stolen and driven from the area. An earlier account identified the missing vehicle as a black Mitsubishi Triton. Su-ngai Padi district A bomb targeted a privately owned car on a bend approaching Ban Thamniap. Four people, comprising one man and three women, were inside, and two of the women were injured. Personnel from Unit 932 assisted the occupants and took them to hospital. Rueso district Two bombs exploded in succession in the Sawo area. Si Sakhon district Earlier information indicated that a bomb had been planted near Skupa village, while the 10.50pm summary listed one electricity-pole bombing in the district. Yi-ngo district Tyres were set alight on Highway 42 near Thung Kha 2 village, Village No. 8, Lahan subdistrict. Mueang Narathiwat district The 10.50pm summary included one bombing. Cho-airong district Tyres were set alight at two locations, one closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera was damaged and one mobile-phone mast was set alight. Chanae district The summary listed one bombing, one SAO building set alight and one damaged CCTV camera. Bacho district One bombing was listed at the Bacho SAO. The 9.42pm update also listed shots fired to cause disruption and the burning of structures, electricity poles and a backhoe elsewhere in Narathiwat.
Public assets targeted across Yala
Yala had 14 incidents, the highest provincial total.
The 9.42pm update identified Raman, Bannang Sata and Than To districts and Lam Mai subdistrict in Mueang Yala district.
The 10.50pm summary covered Mueang Yala, Raman, Bannang Sata and Than To.
The attacks mainly targeted public utilities and government property, with other incidents involving CCTV cameras being set alight.
Raman district Tyres were set alight in Village No. 2 of Cha-kwa and Kayu Boko subdistricts, while a road in Village No. 2 of Noen Ngam subdistrict was spray-painted. Than To district Attackers set fire to a government vehicle at the Ban Rae SAO and a telecommunications mast at Si Tha Nam village. Another arson attack occurred in the garage area of Land Development Station Yala. Bannang Sata district Initial information listed tyre fires outside the Pa Wang sawmill and at the Ngo Kapo three-way junction, while the later summary counted only one tyre-fire location in the district. Mueang Yala district The later summary included an advertising sign set alight, caltrops scattered and a suspicious object placed. Accounts differ over the attack at the Bang Pu store
Pattani had five incidents in Yarang, Yaring and Nong Chik districts in the 9.42pm update, while the 10.50pm summary covered only Yaring and Nong Chik.
Yaring district At 8.45pm, attackers fired shots to cause disruption and placed a suspicious object at Bang Pu junction before approaching the 7-Eleven Bang Pu branch. They also set tyres alight on Highway 42 at the U-turn outside Yaring Hospital. Accounts of the convenience-store incident differed. Initial information described an armed robbery at the branch, the 9.42pm update referred to a bomb attack near it, and the 10.50pm summary listed a convenience-store fire. Nong Chik district A fire engine belonging to the Bang Khao SAO was damaged in an arson attack. Security forces and agencies increased surveillance and tightened patrols along main and secondary roads.
Personnel were deployed to inspect affected sites and risk areas, with officers exercising the utmost caution because the simultaneous incidents could have been intended to divert attention or lure them into ambushes.
Authorities also sought to build public understanding and confidence while closely safeguarding residents.
The tally of 34 incidents remained preliminary as of 9.42pm, with two incidents still under detailed examination.
Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) personnel and forensic officers were inspecting the sites and compiling official information.
Figures relating to losses and other incident details could change, with further updates expected.
