Arya News - The former premier`s sister, Aleema Khan has been sent to Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail for 30 days under public-order law, while jailed PTI founder Imran Khan has undergone a medical examination at Adiala Jail.
NEW DELHI – The detention of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister has been followed by claims that several more members of his family have been taken into custody, intensifying the confrontation ahead of a major PTI protest planned for September 27.
Khan’s son Kasim Khan alleged that his aunts Dr Uzma and Noreen and cousins Shershah and Shahrez were taken from their homes without the family being told the grounds for their detention or where they were being held. He later claimed two more cousins, Azeem and Sakeenah, had also been detained.
The allegations came a day after Aleema Khan, another of the former premier’s sisters, was detained in Lahore for 30 days under the Punjab Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960. Police confirmed she was taken to Kot Lakhpat Jail.
‘No reasons for arrest’: Kasim Khan alleges relatives taken away
“This is a disgrace. Now my Aunts Dr. Uzma and Noureen, along with my cousins Shershah and Shahrez have now been abducted as well,” Kasim wrote on X.
He alleged that authorities had entered their homes and forced them into vehicles.
“They have broken into my aunties and cousins houses and forced them into vehicles with no explanation. No reasons for arrest have been stated. No news has been released as to where they have been taken,” he said.
Kasim described the alleged actions as “criminal behaviour” and sought international attention.
In a subsequent post, he said two children of his cousin Shahrez, aged four and six, were initially unaccounted for. He later said they were safe.
“Hearing news that my cousin’s children are now safe. Meanwhile, two more of my cousins have been arrested. Azeem and Sakeenah. No reasons given. No location given,” he said.
Aleema Khan detained for 30 days ahead of PTI march
The allegations follow the detention of Aleema Khan on Sunday after Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz issued an order for her detention or arrest for 30 days under the MPO.
The order cited concerns over law and order and public safety. Dawn reported that the Civil Lines Division superintendent of police and district intelligence branch in-charge had recommended the 30-day detention.
PTI has condemned the action and demanded Aleema’s release.
Her son Shahrez Khan had earlier described her detention as an “abduction” and said the family initially had no information about her whereabouts.
The September 27 protest and march to Islamabad has been called by PTI to demand Imran Khan’s release from prison.
Imran Khan undergoes medical examination in Adiala Jail
The developments come as Imran Khan, 73, underwent a medical examination inside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
A specialist team from the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences examined his blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eyes, Geo News reported, citing jail sources.
PTI has raised concerns over Khan’s health and sought his transfer to Shifa International Hospital for a comprehensive examination and treatment.
Pakistan’s Supreme Court had on August 18 directed jail authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. He was instead taken to PIMS, with the government citing security concerns, before being returned to prison.
Khan has been incarcerated since 2023 and has faced multiple legal cases since his removal as prime minister through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
The fresh allegations involving his family now come less than a week before PTI supporters are due to march towards Islamabad.
